After serving a 12 game suspension for swinging an arm to the face of Suns center Jusuf Nurki\u0107 back in December, Draymond Green has been reinstated by the NBA and is expected to make his return tonight for Golden State against the Memphis Grizzlies.<\/span><\/p>\n

All eyes will be on Green and what he can bring to a struggling and injury-ridden Warriors team, especially considering the team\u2019s history with the Grizzlies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently sitting at 12th in the western conference, if the playoffs started today the Warriors wouldn\u2019t even qualify for the Play-In tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite being criticized throughout his career for rarely scoring a large amount of points. Green has proven himself to be an incredibly valuable asset to his team.<\/span><\/p>\n

Green was the Defensive Player Of The Year (2017), he\u2019s a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist (2016, 2020), and has made an All-Defensive Team eight times. He is the only player in NBA history to be selected in the second round of the NBA draft and win four championships with four All-Star selections.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many analysts refer to Green as \u201cthe heart and soul of the Warriors.\u201d Stephen Curry may be the best overall player on the team, but the passion and energy that Draymond brings is a huge reason they\u2019ve had so much sustained success.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These are the many pros of having a guy like Draymond on your team, what seems to get him in trouble time, and time again is his recklessness and tendency to disregard the safety of other players.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the 2022 offseason, footage leaked of Draymond punching teammate Jordan Poole in practice. There was no suspension given by either the team or NBA commissioner Adam Silver.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In April of 2023, Green was suspended for one game in a playoff series against the Kings for stomping on forward Domantas Sabonis\u2019 chest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And in November, he involved himself in an altercation between teammate Klay Thompson and Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, where he was suspended for 5 games for wrapping his arms around Gobert\u2019s neck \u201cin an unsportsmanlike and dangerous manner,\u201d said the NBA.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Add all of these incidents, on top of the strike to Nurki\u0107, lead to an indefinite suspension. The NBA determined that \u201che will be required to meet certain league and team conditions before he returns to play.” Green was assigned to counseling to help address his anger both on and off the court.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ones who suffered most during the suspension, however, were his teammates and coaches. They currently have an under .500 record and have a lot of catching up to do if they want to make it to the playoffs.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe need him. We need Draymond. He knows that\u2026We’ve talked to him. He’s got to find a way to keep his poise and be out there for his teammates,” head coach Steve Kerr said.<\/span><\/p>\n

He took an extra four games to get back into game-ready shape, missing the last 16 games in total. <\/span><\/p>\n

In a recent podcast episode, Green explained that amidst the drama, he actually told commissioner Silver that he wanted to retire. In which he persuaded Green against it saying, \u201cYou’re making a very rash decision and I won’t let you do that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Returning from what has been the lowest point of Green’s career, tonight is definitely going to be an interesting one. Will Steph Curry finally regain his offensive rhythm with Draymond being back on the court?\u00a0Another player who may be affected is 21 year old Jonathan Kuminga, who coach Kerr has been playing much more during Green\u2019s absence. Will Kerr give Kuminga fewer minutes? Will his play be negatively impacted?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
